Forgotten Worlds

So this is going to be my first serious attempt at blogging, whether or not anyone ever reads it is going to be a hit or miss proposition. Essentially, I am someone who grew up playing computer games, but since my family only bought Macs, I missed out on alot of stuff. As I have recently tried to kick my World of Warcraft habit, in the last month I went on a absolute shopping spree on GOG and Steam. In the process I have collected a veritable history of PC gaming, at least as far asCRPG (and related strategy and tactical titles) are concerned. This blog will be my thoughts, impressions and comments on each as I go through them.

There are many blogs like this, and I'm not going to claim this is some sort of novel idea. Simple fact is this: I love old games, I enjoy collecting and archiving them (almost more than playing sometimes) and I am fascinated with how they evolved over the years. You won't see anything about the newest "Dragon Age" of "Dark Souls" here, nor will I get into consoles. This blog will only cover games released at least 10 years ago (with the possible exception of some newer games that are so obviously influenced by old classics and out of the mainstream today that I don't want to ignore them). If it doesn't run in DOSBox or on my 1.8 ghz laptop, it's off the board.

In the end, I'm a classicist in terms of pop culture. I often feel that there is so much OLD stuff I have never experienced it only makes sense to reach backwards. Music mostly ends for me in the late 90s. Games, even more so, seem to have lost their soul and become interactive movies. One thing I know every game I cover will have is the requirement of immersion and imagination, to one extent or another. I hope at least a few people come along for the ride.
